This is the one pillar pagoda. It is know as Lien Hoa Dai. It was built in 1049.






There is a tale that King Ly Thia Tong (1028 to 1054) did not have a son to be heir to the throne. He dreamt that the Goddess of Bodisattva took him to the Buddha's throne and was told he would have a son. He later did have a son, so he built this pagoda to honor Bodisattva and to give thanks for a son.






I saw many women praying at the alter. I was told they are praying for fertility.






I did not see any men praying.
